Reading and finding things

Do I need an account to read?

No. Every post, profile and nook is open to everyone, with nothing to sign up for.

What is a nook?

A nook is a topic. Writers tag their posts with topics, and each topic gets its own page with an address like n/topic-name. Tap a nook chip under any post to see every post filed there.

What are shelves?

Shelves are a writer’s own categories. They appear as tabs on that writer’s pages, so you can browse just the part of their blog you care about.

How do I follow a writer?

Press Follow (RSS) on their profile. It is a regular RSS feed at /handle/feed.xml, which you can add to any feed reader. The whole site has one too, at /feed.xml.

Do you track what I read?

No. Readers get no cookies, and there are no analytics or advertising scripts. The privacy page explains the little we do keep.

Replying in threads

How do I reply to a post?

Scroll to the thread under the post, fill in Write a reply with a name and your message, and send it. No account or email address is needed.

Why doesn’t my reply show up yet?

Guest replies are held for review and appear once a moderator approves them. Replies that are never approved are deleted automatically after 30 days.

Can I edit or delete my reply?

Replies are not tied to an account, so you can’t change them yourself. Use the contact page, choose “Privacy request”, and include the post link and the name you used; we will remove it.

What makes a good reply?

One that answers the post: a question, a thank-you, an extra tip, a respectful disagreement. The guidelines cover the rest.

Writing on PearlNook

How do I get a blog?

Writer accounts are by invitation only. Send a note through the contact page under “Writing here”. Already invited? Use Sign in.

Who owns what I publish?

You do. Publishing gives PearlNook permission to host your posts, show them on the site and send them out through RSS. The terms have the details.

Can I remove a post or my whole blog?

Yes. Ask through the contact page and tell us which posts, or the whole blog, should be taken down.

Reporting a problem

I found a post or reply that breaks the rules.

Please tell us on the contact page under “Report a post or comment”, with a link to it. A moderator will take a look.

Someone posted my work without permission.

Write to us under “Copyright” with a link to the post and a short description of your original work, and we will look into it.
